Ducted Air Conditioning

Ducted air conditioning is ideal for air conditioning large areas of your home, or the entire house.

A ducted air conditioning system is comprised of two main components, The indoor unit which cools or heats the air from within the dwelling and distributes it throughout the home via a series of flexible ducts and supply air outlets. Then there’s the outdoor unit that’s positioned against the exterior of the house, where the compressor is housed.

A major benefit of ducted air conditioning is the ability to create up to 8 zones. A zone is a room or a combination of rooms that have been chosen during the design phase of the system. These zones can be turned on or off independently of one another. For example, a simple 2 zone configuration may have the Living areas on one zone, and the Bedrooms on another. This two zone configuration would allow the user to turn off the bedroom zone when the bedrooms are unoccupied and direct the conditioned air to the living areas and vice versa, the living area can be switched off to direct the conditioned air the bedrooms. You can also have a system designed with enough capacity to air condition multiple zones at the same time.

Ducted systems are a favourite amongst minimalists because they’re so unobtrusive. The only parts visible are the return air grille and supply air outlets that provide the conditioned air into the home. All of the bulky operating equipment is safely hidden away where you can’t see it.

It is important to keep in mind that a ducted system is not a “one size fits all” solution. There are several things to consider when designing a ducted system to ensure it suits your lifestyle. Things such as the size or capacity of the system, number of outlets, zone configuration, energy efficiency & the appropriate location of the thermostat and the outdoor unit are all things that Safair will discuss with you during the quotation process to ensure that you end up with an air conditioning system that not only meets all of your requirements, but also provides you with years of reliable, energy efficient service.
